As a homeschool mom, the demands can feel endless—teaching lessons, prepping activities, washing sticky hands and faces. Add to that the regular duties of keeping a home running. I often run on fumes by day’s end, yearning for a reset button.

A Homeschool Mom's Guide to Stress Relief Sanity

The thing is, left unchecked, that underlying stress and fatigue builds. One day bleeds into the next of heaviness until it feels like life is smothering you. As moms, we can’t pour out to our families when we’re spiritually and emotionally depleted.

That’s why I’m adamant about prioritizing soul care. Just as putting on your oxygen mask first allows you to help others, taking steps to destress enables you to be the supportive, energized mom and teacher your kids need.

If you’re feeling the weight of overwhelm, here are some practical ways to find your breath again:

Exercise –

Even a brisk walk around the neighborhood can boost endorphins and clear your head. The exercise helps work through pent-up tension.

Sleep –

I know, it’s often easier said than done with kids! But aiming for 7-8 hours can make a huge difference to reset your mind and body.

Practice Gratitude –

Shift your perspective by listing out thanks. It’s hard to stay negative when focused on blessings.

Connect With Your Spouse –

Keep this vital relationship from stagnating under busyness. Carve out daily talk time, just the two of you.

Have Fun With Your Kids –

It’s easy to always be in parent-teacher mode. Laugh and play together—it’s restorative!

Call a Friend –

Having someone who’ll empathize with your struggles and wins makes a tough day seem lighter.

Learn Something New –

Maybe a new skill, hobby, or book you’ve wanted to explore. Stimulating your mind re-energizes you.

Enjoy a Hobby –

You loved it before kids, so pick it back up. That creative or physical outlet is fuel.

Get Into Nature –

Breathe the fresh air, dig in the garden, bask in God’s wondrous creation. I am so replenished!

Sing Worship Songs –

Turn off the noise and tune your heart to truths about our unshakable God. Praise realigns priorities.

Read Your Bible –

This is the ultimate Source of peace and perspective for the hardships and joys of mothering.

There are days when implementing these de-stressing tactics seems impossible. But even grabbing 10 minutes to walk, call a friend, or read Scripture can be a lifeline.

And if you’re looking for more inspiration, I invite you to check out The Daily Bible Podcast I host with my friend Michelle Hill on YouTube. Every weekday, we unpack encouragement from God’s Word to strengthen us as wives, moms, and daughters of the King.

Whatever you do, don’t neglect caring for yourself, dear homeschooling mama. You’re displaying Christ’s love to your family through your selfless service, but you must also be replenished. I’m cheering you on as you prioritize soul-sustaining breaks. You’ve got this!
