I wrote “Hold Me Father” during the dark season of my life when I was undergoing treatment for throat cancer. My chance of coming out of surgery with any voice was slim to none. But Heavenly Father told me He saved my voice and I am to use it for His glory.

It has been 20 years since I wrote the words to this song. What a beautiful reminder of His amazing love to see this music video come to completion. I pray the song and the video blessedly move you to know whatever struggle you may go through; I encourage you to invite Heavenly Father to hold you through it. Ask Him to help you cross that mountain, and when your victory comes, sing out praises endlessly to Him for His Glory.

As always, I give all glory, honor and praise to my Heavenly Father, my Savior Yeshua Hamashiach and His Holy Spirit!

TobyMac shared a little about how the song ‘Fire’s Burnin’’ came to be and how Cory Asbury joined the track.

“As I started singing it, it got this really smooth vocal. And somehow or another, it still sounds like me. Like a cadence-driven verse melody,” said TobyMac. “And then we were like, ‘Who would be the right guest on this?’ And there’s one guy in this industry that kind of comes from worship, but he has also never been fearful of a pop melody or a pop track, and that’s Cory Asbury, who I think is absolutely amazing. I love his humor. I love the fact that he enjoys life and loves his family. Smiles a lot, laughs a lot. He came into the studio and was like a breath of fresh air.”

TobyMac continued: “This song really is about, the heart is, ‘This fire’s burning for you. I will never stop, God. I will not stop. You are what I live for.”

What an incredible song! It is always wonderful to listen to songs that are written from scripture and to see how they take these truths and put them back into song for the church to sing.

In verse one of ‘Christ Crucified,’ the lyrics talk about coming to the cross and looking to the cross to find hope and forgiveness. This is where we meet Jesus.

Then verse two talks about the resurrection and how amazing it is that Jesus rose from the grave. This is also the part of the song when it builds into a big crescendo.

For verse three, the lyrics focus on the eternal hope that we have as Christians. We can look to that and have hope in Jesus who will come and restore all things.

The lead singer of KXC speaks a little bit about how the song ‘Christ Crucified’ came to be. “I was worshiping on my keyboard at home and it all kind of just came out of nowhere,” he said. “It was quite nice, because it sounded quite hymnal, which is different. I usually like to bring the energy and kind of rock out a little bit.”
