Enjoy this 3-minute encouragement from the 4 men of Anthem Lights as they sing their original song, “Freedom’s Worth the Fight.”
Released July 1, 2022, and written and performed by, from left to right, Spencer Kane, Joseph Stamper, Caleb Grimm, and Chad Graham, this song restores “local” listeners’ famously American sense of pride—causing us to throw back our weary shoulders and raise our lowered chins!
Standing in dry creek bottom and literally surrounded by God’s beautiful creation, Anthem Lights sends out a reminder that even though conflict and discord seem lately to be too often the norm, we are still “fighting for each other” and “standing side by side.”
Here are a few lines from the song’s chorus:
That we've got 50 different reasons
To hold our head up high
We might be torn to 13 pieces
We still gotta fly
Spencer, the newest and youngest of the four current band members, opens the song with Joey providing guitar accompaniment. A tribute to the resilience and determination of the U.S.A. and her people, the lyrics offer hope. And, the voices of Anthem Lights render their sweet sentiment in honey-like harmonies!
“50 reasons” is most certainly a shout-out to our 50 fabulous states, and “13 pieces” a reference to our 13 original colonies. But given the fact that Anthem Lights is a rock, pop, Christian, and gospel group, it may be that the freedom they sing about isn’t from a purely patriotic point of view.
These talented and believing vocalists say that “liberty’s got enemies.” Just maybe, in addition to freedom for and within our country, they are singing about freedom in Christ.
Anthem Lights was founded in 2007. The members have individual and group projects, including a PureFlix animated series that began in January 2022. You can learn more about the show and their live performances at their website. While their song is uplifting, so is the fact that there seem to be more media outlets and avenues for their fans to experience the positive work they are doing!
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” Luke 4:18
